Join me at our Open House

Crystal is the symbol of a 15th anniversary, and it is fitting that ALCOSAN is holding its 15th annual Open House as we embark on a vigorous project to make our rivers crystal clear for generations to come.

I am looking forward to welcoming guests to ALCOSAN on Saturday, September 16, for a day of activities and entertainment built around the necessity of maintaining a clean environment. The challenge before us is to prevent overflows from the sewer system into our waterways. It is daunting, but our employees, our communities and our region is up to it. We are, as our new campaign announces, 3 Rivers Proud.

Dozens of exhibitors will be on hand, including newcomers and returning favorites. The Mad Scientist will explain how microscopic bugs help ALCOSAN treat wastewater, and the Nutty Science Professor will demonstrate a series of fascinating experiments to show you. Our professionals from Plumbers Local Union No. 27 will be available to answer plumbing questions, and visitors will be able to participate in our own Jeopardy-style environmental quiz game, Envirobowl.
A complete list of exhibitors is available at bit.ly/2xPtVAs. I hope you will check out the options and join us at the Open House. You may register at bit.ly/2xNWhLq.

Our gates will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free, and there will be free shuttle service from the two North Side T stations.

The best way to learn about what we do here at ALCOSAN is to take a guided bus tour through the 59-acre plant. These 45-minute tours fill up fast, so – even if you registered for the Open House in advance – you will need a tour ticket. We recommend that guests stop at the tour ticket booth as soon as they arrive. For a look at what happens every day at ALCOSAN, visitors also can take a 30-minute walking tour of our laboratory where samples are tested daily.
We at ALCOSAN are proud of the work we do and our role in maintaining clean water. That’s why we adopted the statement “3 Rivers Proud” as our own.

I hope to see you at the Open House.
